About Briland Construction
I came into building honestly, after a lot of time in the law library, my first career. My great grandfather, O.C. Parker came to Tallahassee to build the cupola structure addition on the Old Capital building in downtown Tallahassee in 1902, and his building business took off, and he never left. his son Fred, my grandfather, studies Engineering at UF, and returned to Tallahassee to build houses, boats, cabinetry and furniture – he was an “old school” master carpenter/builder and I loved to work with him on anything. His son Paul, is an accomplished builder of over 60 years experience here in Tallahassee, and my father Jerry, a banker, even had a small residential construction company here in Tallahassee while I was growing up. I learned basic carpentry and mechanics in my father’s construction shop – it was my favorite place to be.
After an early career in corporate law, I finally “saw the light” in 2001 in Key West, Florida, where dozens of 100+ year old historic homes were being brought back to life under the strict overwatch of the Historical Architectural Review Board of Key West. I had been in and around construction all my life, and had recently designed and built (with Jennings Knox/Culpepper) a 23,000 square foot upscale retirement home in Cairo, Ga. This solidified my focus on construction, and I was formed that same year, and has been designing and building from Key West to Tallahassee for almost 20 years. Give us a chance to build something for you!
